Support Request: fail to redirect web page

Description

Hi,

We have loaded site kiosk onto a laptop for the purposes of running a test/s for candidates via a website. These test are timed and at the end of the time the pages is suppose to redirect to a 'finished' page. Access to the to the login and test page work and the test itself seems to operate fine, however at the completion instead of redirecting the webpage we are getting this error,

“The requested site could not beloaded.

An error occurred while trying to go to the pagehttps://defencecareers.secure.force.com/pcms/candidateassessmentclosed?id=a03a000000HIThxAAH”

or an address very close where the characters between“a03000000HIT’and “AAH” would vary.

This is the only error stopping us from be able to deploy Site Kiosk to the rest of the testing laptops. Any help appreciated.

Thanks
David Worthington

Hello David,

Does the web app work as expected in the Internet Explorer Browser you have installed?

You may try the following troubleshooting steps when it comes to difference in behavior with the SiteKiosk Browser and Internet Explorer:

First, Please ensure that you have SiteKiosk 8.9 installed on the computer and all Windows updates have been downloaded and installed.

You can try taking SiteKiosk out of the user agent header in case the site is performing some type of browser identification. To do this, open the SiteKiosk configuration tool and go to >Basic >Start Page & Browser >Advanced and uncheck the box labeled Add SiteKiosk to use agent header.

To try different compatibility view settings, do the following:

Close the SiteKiosk configuration tool then open your configuration file in Notepad and search for:
<ie8-compatibility-view enabled="true" />
and change it to this:
<ie8-compatibility-view enabled="false" />

Save the file then test in SiteKiosk. SiteKiosk needs to be started twice for the setting to take effect so start SiteKiosk in Start Once mode then close it right after it start and run it in Start Once mode again to test the issue. Other compatibility view settings can be found below.

With IE11 installed e.g.
<ie8-compatibility-view enabled="true" emulation-mode="8888" />
<ie8-compatibility-view enabled="true" emulation-mode="9999" />
<ie8-compatibility-view enabled="true" emulation-mode="10001" />

SiteKiosk is based off of the IE Webbrowser control which is the IE engine but no full blown IE. To test with just the IE Webbrowser control outside of SiteKiosk see below:

For testing it in the Internet Explorer Webbrowser Control (outside / without SiteKiosk) you can download this ZIP from our web page and then execute the exe after extracting the files (you do not need to install anything):

Hi,

I have tried the recommendations below however this has not resolved this issue. I have not tested with the test browser application however. Given this error occurs at the end of the timed test it is difficult to test using external applications.

Is there any other suggestions you can advise to resolve this issue?

Thanks
David

It is important that you test it in the webbrowser test app to rule out the possibility of a general incompatibility:

For testing it in the Internet Explorer Webbrowser Control (outside / without SiteKiosk) you can download this ZIP from our web page and then execute the exe after extracting the files (you do not need to install anything):

However, You can run a single webpage in full screen mode using a chromium based browser in SiteKiosk. Please note there will be no browser toolbar it will run the main page in full screen mode. If that will meet your requirements, here is a link to the developer blog that explains how to do that: http://devblog.provisio.com/post/2014/10/21/How-to-Create-a-Chromium-based-Fullscreen-Browser-in-SiteKiosk-89.aspx

Hi,

I have run the web app through the browser test application and it the app operated as expected without issue. The error 500 still occurs, however is click the linkto reload the page that failed, it works with out error?

I could not follow the chromium install procedure at this step "3) Choose the new Start Screen and press the Customize button." there is no customize button. We are running the latest version Site Kiosk.
