Support Request: Printing does not work when using the restricted user account

Description

Hello,

I am deploying SiteKiosk for an event ticket reservation an printing kiosk.
When I run SiteKiosk from the default administrator account in Windows 8.1, everything runs fine and I can print.
But when I run SiteKiosk using the sitekiosk's restricted user account I am unable to print anything.

The print spool has the print job, but the print jobs are marked as "Error - Printing"
The same happens if I try to print anything from any other application when using that user account.

I've tried unprotecting SiteKiosk and setting the restricted user account as Administrator on Windows, but I still can't print using that account.

The printer I'm using is a Zebra KR 203

Please let me know if this is a known issue, and how to proceed to make the printer work with that user account.

Thank you.

To resolve or further troubleshoot this issue you will have to change the settings in the SiteKiosk Restricted User Account (because this is the account SiteKiosk uses when set to run in AutoStart). Please follow the below instructions to lift the restrictions on the Limited User Account so you will be able to make the necessary changes for your printer. I would advise that whatever printer settings you have in the Administrator account, just do the same for the SiteKiosk Restricted User Account.

Steps for removing restrictions from SiteKiosk Limited User Account and changing the settings for your printer:

1. Log on to the terminal as the administrator

2. Select Start > All Programs > SiteKiosk > System Security Manager

3. In the System Security Quick Start screen, select ‘Unprotected’ and click the ‘OK’ button

4. The next screen will ask you to “Do you want to apply the changes now?”, click the “yes” button

5. It will go through the setting changes (which may take a few minutes), then will state that it is “Finished – Please click OK”, and click the “OK” button

6. On the ‘Settings Changed Successfully’ window, select the “Exit Wizard” option and click “OK”

7. Select Start > Log Off Administrator

8. Log on to the terminal as SiteKiosk Restricted User. Default login information are Username: SiteKiosk, Password: provisio (the password is case-sensitive)

9. Change the settings and/or test the printer in the Windows environment to make sure that it is working. You are now able to set the printer as the default printer in the SiteKiosk Restricted User Account (in control panel) Note: Since you turned off the security settings to this account, you now have
full access to the computer and are now able to perform previously blocked tasks, such as right click, access the control panel, access folders and drives, etc

10. Repeat Steps 1-5, except change the selection of “Unprotected” to “Protected” in Step 3.

11. Run the SiteKiosk software and test the changes that you made to the Restricted User Account.

I've tried that and a lot of things and I can't get it to print with that user account.
I'm pretty sure that is something related with permission changes made by SiteKiosk.

When I try to print with the restricted user account, the print queue marks the print job with an Error status.

If I check the event log I get an error event for that print job with this message:
Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 5. Access is denied.

Im trying this after unprotecting the account.
I checked the permissions and setted Read and Write permission for the Users group at C:\Windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS with no success.

Any idea what could be causing this problem?

This issue seems to be related to the scenario in the help files where only administrators (initial start of SiteKiosk) will be able to print.... See the below support article.
