Support Anfrage: Windows Edge Browser Window Opening Over Site Kiosk Screen

Beschreibung

What we've found is this week is SiteKiosk/SiteCaster boots in the chrome browser page correctly but a default Edge browser window then opens over the Kiosk screen in Windows 10. Has anyone else had this issue and what is the best way to resolve the problem.

Same here! Its a huge security problem for us. Anyone can browse freely outside of secure browser even to restricted pages.

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. SiteKiosk 9.7 is out of support, however any information discussed will be based on 9.9.6014. Generally, SiteKiosk does block the Edge Browser but in older versions (like 9.7.5026) it does only apply to older Edge versions (before Microsoft has changed the Browser engine to Chromium).

With SiteKiosk 9.8.5547 we added missing entry for Edge Chromium to the Windows and Dialogs Management: https://www.sitekiosk.com/sitekiosk-windows-version-history/
See Section 1 of our Applications FAQ: https://www.sitekiosk.com/web/CustomerSupportCenter/ArticleDetails.aspx?ArticleID=25533

You can manually enter Tile: "*icrosoft Edg*" Class: "Chrome_WidgetWin_1"

If updating SiteKiosk is not an option right now, then you can check any of these options to prevent the Edge from starting automatically:
- Open Task manager > Startup Tab
Look for Microsoft Edge then Disable

- Press Start then search Settings
Select Accounts. >Click Sign in Options.
Scroll all the way down and turn off "Use my sign-in info to automatically finish setting up my device after an update or restart,"

- Press WIN+R to open Run
Type in shell:startup then hit Enter.
Look for Edge inside the folder then delete it.

Best regards,
Andre.

So I tried all the suggested settings changes. In the end, the Microsoft link with the last post fixed it. I logged in as the local administrator and under Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Require sign. Change from Every Time to Never.

Thank you Andre for your comments. We have 20+ kiosks (SiteKiosk 9.7 is our oldest version) and found this issue on all the machines with that latest Edge (Chromium) update.

A solution from one of our IT network guys was to uninstall Edge and add a startup script so Edge will not be reinstalled on the machine. This approach has resolved the issue for now.

It seems like it’s only a recent bug in the latest version of edge. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftedge/forum/msedge_open-msedge_win10/booting-edge-into-kiosk-mode-via-shell-now-opens-2/fc46b1f9-5667-4ee4-a083-8366ac66ff38?from=mostrecent

We did try several options to prevent it from loading which mainly included MS edge registry keys to disable auto startup, running in the background and not starting apps that were already started before reboot. We did get edge to stop loading in the admin user environment but the kiosk mode must behave differently.

Kind Regards
Glenn

We are facing same problem. After last Edge update a new tab of Edge is opened with highest displey priority over everything else even on top of sitekiosk. So anyone can open any desired page, (not very pleasant on public access compurers) We tried almost everything. The only workaround we found is working is to check task schedule, there are tasks:

MicrosoftEdgeUpdateTaskMachineCore
and
MicrosoftEdgeUpdateTaskMachineUA

after disabling both of these tasks no Edge tab is opened after login. The trigger is login of any user. So Microsoft is trying to force use of Edge the hard way. I do not now why is Edge opened over sitekiosk in restricted user. But Edge is now a firm part of operating system, so it can not be uninstalled or disabled easily and MS can do whatever they want now.

Hope this helps
