Support Request: Closing External Applications on Idle

Description

Hi, I am having trouble getting external apps to close once a session goes idle and restarts. I have tried adding it to Settings -> Client -> Advanced -> Applications but perhaps I just don't know what the syntax is supposed to look like because the application won't close. Is there somewhere else I should be adding this? Thanks for your help.

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. With SiteKiosk Online, you can close the application at "idle timeout (screensaver)" by adding the application path to an element in Properties>>Actions>>"Start app/program". If the application uses an irregular window that does not respond to the close command from SiteKiosk, please share with us the details of the application you are using (how to obtain and test or any other details).

For example, this feature works with Adobe PDF, Notepad and UWP applications (from Microsoft Store). Please send more details of the issue you are having, including a copy of your project (Projects>>[project row]>>Actions>>Export Project) to our US Support email: https://www.sitekiosk.com/contact/

Best regards,
Adnre.

Hello,

Thank you for your files. You can be mindful that the main page and screensaver pages are different modes, the applications will be closed switching between both (screensaver vs non-screensaver).

With SiteKiosk Online, there is an element called "Auto action element". Once you add this, you will double click to set the Action in Properties. Now, to launch your application successfully for "auto action", you must add this to the page where you need it.

In SiteKiosk Online, you can create many pages and each page has their listed elements in various positions. In your case you added the Skype UWP path to the project root element instead as an element on a page. The "auto action" element is hidden so users will never see it.

Skype have UWP name you can obtain. Please find the instructions in this link: https://devblog.provisio.com/post/2022/07/20/Launching-UWP-Apps-in-SiteKiosk-Online.aspx

Also, the standard installer for Zoom tends install on the AppData Folder. You want to avoid this, as to prevent any undue complications with our restricted environment. So, you can go to the Zoom Download Center>>Download for IT Admin>>Zoom Client for Meetings>>Download MSI.

https://zoom.us/download#client_4meeting
https://zoom.us/client/5.11.4.7185/ZoomInstallerFull.msi?archType=x64

This MSI file will install Zoom in the "Program Files" directory. Please use this path to the program instead:

C:\Program Files\Zoom\bin\Zoom.exe

On testing, you will see the expected behavior for your project.

Best regards,
Andre.
