Support Request: Unable to Display PDFs

Description

A couple machines were experiencing print issues where it would take upwards of 2 min for a doc to go from the machine to the printer. The issue was isolated to the SiteKiosk software as printing outside the shell had no issues. I upgraded one of the machines from 9.8.5779 to 9.9.6191 and now the print issue seems to be resolved, but it can no longer display PDFs. We are using the Chrome browser and block downloads.

To clarify, when I say that it doesn't display PDFs, it creates a pop-up window where the PDF should display (and displays on the older version on other machines), but it's completely blank.

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. Because popups are involved in your web browsing experience, you would need to use the tab bar or tabs to accommodate another window opening. In your specific your scenario, you need to try testing with this turned on:

Configuration>>Start Page & Browser>>Customize (Chrome Browser)>>Browser Toolbar>>Show Tab Bar and Toggle Tab Bar Button

Other areas in Customize (Chrome Browser) to consider in general (not applicable to submitted file):
>>Advanced>>"Maximum number of browser windows/tabs" (Set to more than 1)
>>Settings>>"Redirect new windows/tabs to main window" (Keep this unchecked)

If this doesn't work, then there may be another issue at play. We will need an example or test login and steps to recreate the scenario. You can send more details to support-america(at)sitekiosk.com referencing this post.

Best regards,
Andre.

Was this a change that was included in one of the updates that I applied? It works fine on all the other machines that are running the older version.

Hello,

Each situation is different. I cannot say what the issue is without a specific context. There were some changes made in 9.9.6191 because of certain PDF issues but the browser response will always vary between websites and their coding.

See Release Notes: https://www.sitekiosk.com/sitekiosk-classic-windows-version-history/

Hello,

On further testing, it was observed that the PDF file needed to download instead of viewing from an iframe even if it was another window opening. With Downloads turned on, that file was visible in the browser after download. Print button was available in the browser toolbar to be used by regular clients.

Please note that with SiteKiosk 9.9.6191, there are cases where your PDF file must be downloaded to be printed where applicable. You can tell SiteKiosk to delete those downloaded files in the Configuration>>Logout>>"Delete downloaded files": https://www.sitekiosk.com/helpconsole/SiteKiosk%20Help/en-US/default.htm?logout.htm

Please let us know any specific situation, you may be experiencing as each website as its own unique settings.

Best regards,
Andre.
