Support Request: Site Remote unusable with redirected folders

Reproduction

General use once trying to load even a basic image for a campaign. Application will freeze.

Description

From another report of the same bug:
http://www.provisio.com/en-US/CustomerSupportCenter/ArticleDetails.aspx?ArticleID=20551

"The Digital Signage Silverlight application runs locally at the client machine where you use the SiteRemote Web page at.

For a faster usage of the campaign editor in the web page Silverlight will cache the files you add to the campaign locally the Home directory of the logged in Windows user (default: C:\Users\XXXXXXXXX\Documents\SiteCaster\site\TeamRoot\Campaigns\).

If you (or your domain administrator) changed the home directory location of the Windows user you logged in with to a network drive it can lead to access and/or timing issues with Silverlight.
In that case you should make sure that the Windows user does use the local Documents folder again. "

This isn't practical in a corporate environment, most of which will employ folder redirection. We're certainly not going to start having exclusions and extra backups (with implied extra licenses, storage & support) running just to accomodate Site Remote. A cache such as this should be written to C:\Users\XXXXXXXXX\Local\SiteCaster\site\TeamRoot\Campaigns for example so that it neither writes across the network or is included in roaming profiles. Currently, your software is unusable in our organisation because of this.

This issue applies to Microsoft Silverlight which is used for the Digital Signage feature so there is unfortunately nothing we can do at this time. It is planned to switch to HTML5 techniques in the future but this will take a while. We do currently have a lot of corporate customer that are using SiteRemote digital signage in their environments.

Silverlight doesn't cache to C:\Users\XXXXXXXXX\Documents\SiteCaster\site\TeamRoot\Campaigns\ by default, this has to be set by your software.

The standard cache is in <SYSTEMDRIVE>\Users\<user>\AppData\LocalLow\Microsoft\Silverlight\xxx

Why would you cache large files to a location that is either commonly networked or included in the roaming profile?

You might be referring to the “Isolated Storage” of Silverlight by “standard cache”. We don’t use that standard Silverlight cache because with this cache you always need to check, change and confirm Silverlight settings when you need more space therefore it was decided using the file system to cache the Digital Signage data.
But with Silverlight (particularly when using Silverlight in the Internet Explorer) the access to the file system is limited to the home folder of the Windows user (My Documents, My Photos, MyVideos…). It is not possible to change this at this time.

The local cache is a far better option than going to a location either networked or in a roaming profile, both of which are then backed up in any sensible setup.

There is no option to turn off redirected folders in our organisation, the overheads for doing so do not merit the software. We are looking for a reliable solution to push campaigns out to 100+ loactions but this is unworkable.

I'd suggest your company looks at rectifying it earlier than your move to HTML5.
