Support Request: Site Kiosk Online File Browser

Description

Hello,

I am attempting to create a hybrid start kiosk interface for a local admin on a domain-connected Windows 10 machine using the site kiosk online designer. I have a button that I would like the user to be able to click to open a file manager. I've tried multiple methods such as having explorer.exe launch (access denied), running js script made for site kiosk classic (Blank web browser page or exe also posting 'access denied'), etc. My question is; what is the easiest way to accomplish this? I've looked extensively through your forums and have found only solutions to this issue with the classic interface. Please advise.

Security settings (unrestricted user).
Windows user (local admin).

Thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. For security reasons, SiteKiosk replaces the Windows shell and blocks the “explorer.exe”. This cannot be deactivated.

There are currently no File Manager features with SiteKiosk Online similar to SiteKiosk Classic Windows. This is planned for a future version. However, if you enable the “Downloads” in Project Settings and the “Downloads” Button in the browser bar (Webpage Element), you will have the option see, open and delete the downloads of the current session when pressing that button.

You can use a combination of a direct file link with a Webpage Popup (file://[path to local file] or https:// link) and Download Action rules: https://devblog.provisio.com/post/2023/09/27/How-to-launch-applications-from-the-download-manager.aspx to open your file in a preferred application.

Or you can use a third-party file manager application (needs testing for both admin and restricted user). This will also require some exceptions being made in the Window Filter settings in Project Settings>>Security. Check logs for rule violations.

Hopefully, you will find this helpful.

Best regards,
Andre.
