Support Request: Can't upgrade SiteKiosk 7.8 -> 8.8: Error on install, missing SiteRemoteDll3.dll reported

Reproduction

Trying to install SiteKiosk 8.8 on a machine that runs SiteKiosk 7.8 fails - error message shown in attachment.

Although install rolls-back it has removed previous version of sitekiosk (which I have now reinstalled as thankfully I still had a v7.8 installer.

This message is from the Microsoft Windows installer (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa372835%28v=vs.85%29.aspx).

Generally there is no known issue with installing SiteKiosk on the supported operating systems (http://www.sitekiosk.com/en-US/SiteKiosk/SystemRequirements.aspx)
or updating from SiteKiosk 7.8 to SiteKiosk 8.8

But if having problems with updating you should uninstall SiteKiosk 7.8 before installing SiteKiosk 8.8.
With the default deinstallation the SiteKiosk configuration will remain but to be sure you may also make a backup of your skcfg.

Then download SiteKiosk 8.8 again and install it:

If it still fails you may contact us again to get this information about how to make a logged installation.

I have uninstalled sitekiosk 7.8, downloaded a fresh 8.8 installer, and run it again - with the same result. I get the same error message as before.

I realise the error message is from the MSI installer - but the file it is referencing is the SiteRemoteDll3.dll - which presumably is a Provisio file?

The machine meets the minimum spec (Win7, IE9, 3.4GHz intel i7 with 8GB ram).

I don't know whether there is an issue because SiteRemote was formerly installed (as part of the 7.8 install)?

The SiteRemote client is always part of SiteKiosk installation.
Regarding your description there may was a problem with uninstalling SiteKiosk 7.x properly.

Please just answer the e-mail I did send and provide
- the “log.txt” file from the installation that failed
- a screen shot of the installed applications
- the information which operating system you use
as attachment.
