Support Request: Failed to load Startpage in Autostart mode

Description

Hi all,

We use Win 8.1 computers with Sitekiosk.
Unfortunatly we have the porblem to run one of them in Autostart because the startpage is not loading.
All computers work fine withe the same configuration (attached) except one.
All are connected to the internet
Startpage works fine in Test
Startpage works fine in Run once

at the moment i cannot provide the log .txt file but i know whats written in there.

load default offline page
load startpage
Navigation failed status = -2146697211
load default offline page

thats basically whats written in there.

How can I resolve this Navigation failed status = -2146697211 Error?

You will need to first ensure that you have the most currently supported version of SiteKiosk installed:
The software (SiteKiosk 8.91) can be downloaded at any time from the following location:
http://www.sitekiosk.com/en-US/Downloads/Download.aspx?ItemId=1

Usually, if all machines are working except one, then there must be an isolated issue that would not be related to the configuration settings of SiteKiosk. Can you condiser any differences between the working machines and affected on (OS, IE version, Antivirus etc.)?

1. Have you checked to make sure that the computer has a steady connection to the internet?
2. You may also check the Windows event logs for more information on any Windows issues not affecting other machines.
3. If this is however a corrupted installation, you may reinstall SiteKiosk or run a repair on the software.

If the StartPage works in Start Once mode and not in Autostart, it means that it is a user account specific setting. That means you will need to login to the SiteKiosk user account to set the default printer in Windows. This situation occurs if the printer is installed after SiteKiosk is installed. See below for steps to set the default printer under the Windows SiteKiosk user account.

To make any necessary changes to the SiteKiosk Windows user account, you must first remove the restrictions on the account using the System Security Manager. Remember that all changes made through the System Security Manager only affect the settings to the SiteKiosk Windows user account. To remove the restrictions, follow the instructions below:

1. Log on to the terminal as the administrator
2. Select Start > All Programs > SiteKiosk > System Security Manager
3. In the System Security Quick Start screen, select ‘Unprotected’ and click the ‘OK’ button
4. The next screen will ask you to “Do you want to apply the changes now?”, click the “yes” button
5. It will go through the setting changes (which may take a few minutes), then will state that it is “Finished – Please click OK”, and click the “OK” button
6. On the ‘Settings Changed Successfully’ window, select the “Exit Wizard” option and click “OK”
7. Select Start > Log Off Administrator
8. Log on to the terminal as SiteKiosk Restricted User. Default login information are Username: SiteKiosk, Password: provisio (the password is case-sensitive)
9. Change the settings and/or test in the Windows environment to make sure that it is working. Note: Since you turned off the security settings to this account, you now have full access to the machine and are now able to perform previously blocked tasks, such as right click, access the control panel, access folders and drives, etc
10. Repeat Steps 1-5, except change the selection of “Unprotected” to “Protected” in Step 3.
11. Run the SiteKiosk software and test the changes that you made to the Restricted User Account.
Re: Failed to load Startpage in Autostart mode 28/09/2015 15:43
there are no differences in OS, Software versions or even Hardware. That is really strange.
they are all setup by one and the same Acronis Image.

I tried your solutions but without any results.
Finlay i got the log file

Re: Failed to load Startpage in Autostart mode 28/09/2015 21:40
Based on your logfile....the error number -2146697211 means that the web server or proxy server was not found (DNS Error).

This is a message that comes from the Windows system.

Did you also check it with using other URLs (e.g. www.google.com)?
If not you may check it with different URLs (that are also available in the IE) in “Run once” mode.

If other pages (e.g. www.google.com) work but not the URL you originally want to open you may deactivate the web page error handling of SiteKiosk by adding
<show-nav-error>false</show-nav-error> to the <browserbar> section of the SiteKiosk configuration file.

Like this:

<browserbar>
<show-nav-error>false</show-nav-error>
<style>2</style>
<show-address-box>true</show-address-box>
<anim-url>http://www.provisio.com/en-US/</anim-url>;;

Then try again to open the page.

With adding <show-nav-error>false</show-nav-error> to the <browserbar> section of the SiteKiosk configuration file you activate the error pages and the error handling of the IE in SiteKiosk.

Furthermore you may also check if there is any other security tool (Antivirus Suite / Firewall Suite) installed on that system which is maybe blocking the access of the SiteKiosk Browser to the Internet.
Or maybe the event log of Windows (-->Control Panel-->Administrative Tools-->Event Viewer) gives a hint.

If that doesn’t help you may send your SiteKiosk configuration, a current log file and a short step by step description about how to reproduce the problem via e-mail that I can check if the configuration generally works correctly.
