Support Anfrage: Windows update broke sitekiosk

Beschreibung

Windows update KB5121003 broke sitekiosk. It does not start anymore. What would be the solution for this? We did remove the update and got it running, but this could not be the permanent state.

It appears that this issue is caused by a Windows update that Microsoft distributed last night.
At this time, it seems that update KB5121003 for Windows 11 prevents the NTUSER.DAT file of the SiteKiosk user from being loaded with the default security settings.

I had this same issue across three Windows 11 machines. I rolled back the update as well and paused Windows Updates for as long as I could. We need a fix ASAP.

The Windows updates from August 2026 prevent SiteKiosk Online and SiteKiosk Classic from starting in autostart mode with the local SiteKiosk user.

This script provides an initial hotfix. Our development team is working on a final solution in parallel.

I ran the first version of the powershell script on my kiosks, but now the linked article has a revised and longer powershell script. 


Do we need to run the new version of the powershell script if we already ran the old version first?

If you successfully used the initial script version you do not need to run the new version. The improvements of the newer script are mainly in detecting non-standard situations of the SiteKiosk Windows user account.
