Support Request: SiteKey 7.5 Windows 7

Reproduction

SiteKey 7.5 fails on all Windows 7 systems (total 7 systems tested)

Description

I have installed SiteKiosk 7.5 (latest download) onto 5 Win7 Enterprise (x86) systems and all Systems, after reboot cannot use the keyboard or mouse. I have also test this package on 2 Win7 Ultimate (x86) and they also do not allow any access to the keyboard or mouse after a reboot. Diabling SiteKey makes no difference. I have remove the 7.5 version of SiteKey from the install package and replaced with 7.0.2.1 and all works fine on Windows 7.

Can you please advise if the SiteKey Hook onto the keyboard path is returning a status 0 on creation of the device \\Device\\KeyboardClass0 even if there is an error. If its not then this will be the most likely cause of the issue.

Hello,

SiteKey with SiteKiosk 7.5 works also under Windows 7 (32 and 64 Bit). This has been tested an 10 different Windows 7 setups from Starter Edition up to Ultimate.
Why are you asking that questions about the hook behaviour. Is there something special on your systems in regard to keyboard and mouse initialization?

By the way, the mouse is not affected by SiteKiosk, only the keyboard, SiteKey does not block mouse input.

The is is consistant on all win7 systems I have tested the latest package on. The system autologs on fine but no keyboard or mouse response. This has occured on all my win7 tests of a total of 7 different clean builds, no customizations or programs installed. I have replaced the SiteKey.sys with version 7.0.2.1 and the normal keyboard behaviour occurs.

I have experienced this type of behaviour on some systems in the past (3 or 4 out of 200) using 7.1 of SiteKiosk running XP where the same behaviour occurs. The resolve was to clear the UpperFilters in the registry referencing SiteKey.sys

The reason I enquire about the device creation on the keyboard chain is that if you dont return success 0 then you lock up the keyboard and mouse if for some reason there is a failure.

Hello,

neither on our test systems nor for other users a problem with SiteKey occurs in regard to SiteKiosk 7.5 and Windows 7. That latest version 7.5 is out for 3 months at this moment. We also never had any reports for SiteKiosk 7.1 and XP or any other supported operating system.
We test SiteKiosk on XP, Vista and Win7 systems before it is released. These systems are default installations all patched with the latest available updates.
I am currently sitting next to two Win7 systems running the latest SiteKiosk 7.5 version with SiteKiosk in Autostart mode and SiteKey behaves just fine. It only blocks the critical key combinations and when closing down SiteKiosk I can use mouse and keyboard with no restrictions. I have done this numerous times over this day.

As long as you are not having a special setup for keyboard/mouse I do not see a cause for this. Have you checked the Windows event logs?

I will forward the question about the keyboard hook value to the development department.

Hello,

here is the answer from the development department. As long as the sitekey driver loads it will always return STATUS_SUCCESS.
