Support Request: Error launching external application from SiteKiosk

Description

Good morning,
trying to launch an external application from SiteKiosk classic Windows (from the start bottom left menu), we get the error visible in the attachment. We'd like to point out that by launching the application outside of SiteKiosk, or from the "Test" function in the applications menu in the sitekiosk configuration, it starts correctly. In the application configuration part of SiteKiosk, we have already added also all the possible .exe files that could be launched indirectly from the application. How can we solve it?
The application we are trying to launch is Dolphin Guideconnect.

We also take this opportunity to ask if there was a way to launch "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Narrator.exe" (Windows vocal assistant) from sitekiosk as it is not possible to add it from the applications menu in the configuration (it doens't find this .exe even if exists)

We are awaiting your kind response
Thank you

Hello,

The error message in the screenshot comes from the application (Guide.exe) itself and not from SiteKiosk.

It is best to first test whether it works in Start Once mode (in the same user account where the application starts without SiteKiosk).
If it does, you will either have to make user-dependent program settings in the external application (depends on the external application) or adjust the SiteKiosk user's access rights (also depends on the external application).

Here is the information on how to start and test the application without SiteKiosk in the SiteKiosk user account:
https://www.sitekiosk.com/eu/web/CustomerSupportCenter/ArticleDetails.aspx?ArticleID=5826

Otherwise, the application may require more access rights than are set by default for the SiteKiosk user. Here is a FAQ on the setting options:
https://www.sitekiosk.com/eu/web/CustomerSupportCenter/ArticleDetails.aspx?ArticleID=25533

For more information on troubleshooting, please refer to the article "Troubleshooting Guidelines for Using External Applications with SiteKiosk Windows":

Regarding the narrator application under "C:\WINDOWS\system32\":
This can happen on x64 Windows because SiteKiosk Classic Windows is a 32-bit application and when opening “C:\Windows\System32” via SiteKiosk the Windows System will redirect SiteKiosk to the folder “C:\Windows\SysWOW64” where the .exe does not exist.

You generally can use C:\Windows\sysnative instead.
See: http://www.samlogic.net/articles/sysnative-folder-64-bit-windows.htm

Also see:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa384187(v=vs.85).aspx

For some customers it has also worked to copy the missing application from the directory “C:\Windows\System32” to the directory “C:\Windows\SysWOW64” in order to be able to select it in the SiteKiosk configuration.

Please note:
SiteRemote, SiteCaster and SiteKiosk Classic are legacy products.
SiteRemote and SiteCaster will only receive service updates (security updates and bug fixes) for until the end of 2025.
SiteRemote.net will cease operations on the 31st of December 2025 as is communicated on the login page of https://www.siteremote.net.
If you have your own SiteRemote server you can still use it after the 31st of December 2025 for as long as you like. This product will receive no support after that date, though.

SiteKiosk Classic as a standalone software will still be available. There is currently no planned end date for it.
But as a legacy product it receives limited support, meaning only severe bugs will be fixed and the Chromium browser engine will be updated about 1 or 2 times a year.

Therefore, please also take a look at our current product SiteKiosk Online https://www.sitekiosk.com/eu/sitekiosk/

SiteKiosk Online is designed from scratch and, except for the start mode of the client software, everything is configured on the SiteKiosk Online server (in the projects you can publish on the client computers).
With SiteKiosk Online you can create interactive content as well as display scheduled and event-driven content.
The licensing of the client is also handled by the server and you no longer need to store any licensing information on the client.

We also offer upgrade licenses from SiteKiosk Classic to SiteKiosk Online (SiteKiosk Online Cloud - Upgrade):
https://sitekiosk.com/eu/web/Shop/Shop.aspx?GroupIdx=1

You can test everything before you purchase any license.
Simply create a so-called team at https://sitekiosk.online

The client software can be downloaded under >Dashboard>Downloads (there is client software for Windows and for Android).
System requirements: https://sitekiosk.online/help/en/SystemRequirements.html

After installing the SiteKiosk Online Client & registering it with your team (there is also a client for Windows that automatically registers the client with your team), you can log in to your team at sitekiosk.online and publish the project.
