Support Request: Google search page wrong formatting

Description

Running windows 7 Pro, IE 11, SK 7.8.332. Have set ie8-compatibility-view enabled="false" (only way to open my Comcast web mail).

Opening google.com works fine, but when entering a search term the results page has everything pushed to the left.

In IE I've tried both adding and removing Google from the Compatibility Vew list. Currently both checkboxes in the IE Compatibility View Settings window are unchecked, nothing in the Websites window.

Fun part - I have the SK search window enabled on the top toolbar with Google as the search engine - if I enter a search term and execute it from the toolbar everything works great. If I do the same but using www.google.com in the URL field the formatting is consistently wrong.

With the corrupted Google page open I can click on "Images" and the screen fills normally again, and keeps the proper formatting even when clicking back to "Web" results. So the problem is only happening on the initial web search using www.google.com from the SK url field.

Closing SK and working directly in IE 11 from the Windows 7 computer does not have any problems at all - looks fine every time.

stumped?

Are you able to replicate the issue by downloading and installing the most currently supported version of SiteKiosk (Version 8.9)..

Please note that earlier versions of SiteKiosk are no longer supported, especially when testing with newer technology (e.g. IE 11) that has been released after the version of SiteKiosk you have installed.

Site Kiosk 8 is free to evaluate and can be downloaded from:
http://www.provisio.com/en-US/Downloads/Download.aspx?ItemId=1

Alternatively.......

the SiteKiosk Browser is based off of the IE Webbrowser control which is the IE engine but no full blown IE. To test with just the IE Webbrowser control outside of SiteKiosk see below:

For testing it in the Internet Explorer Webbrowser Control (outside / without SiteKiosk) you can download this ZIP from our web page and then execute the exe after extracting the files (you do not need to install anything):

http://www.provisio.com/Download/beta/WebbrowserTestApplication.zip

To try different compatibility view settings, do the following:

Close the SiteKiosk configuration tool then open your configuration file in Notepad and search for:
<ie8-compatibility-view enabled="true" />
and change it to this:
<ie8-compatibility-view enabled="false" />

Save the file then test in SiteKiosk. SiteKiosk needs to be started twice for the setting to take effect so start SiteKiosk in Start Once mode then close it right after it start and run it in Start Once mode again to test the issue. Other compatibility view settings can be found below.

With IE11 installed e.g.
<ie8-compatibility-view enabled="true" emulation-mode="8888" />
<ie8-compatibility-view enabled="true" emulation-mode="9999" />
<ie8-compatibility-view enabled="true" emulation-mode="10001" />

Thanks for the info. Right now I'm just trying to work with what I have. The odd thing is that when using the embedded search box in the top command bar to execute a Google search it opens a properly formatted page. When I type www.google.com into the URL field and execute the same search the formatting is all wrong. I've tried all the compatibility settings by editing the config file but no luck - was hoping that since it works in one portion of SK and not another you might be able to find a clue as to what the difference could be. Thanks anyway.

Yeah, still trying to get this fixed with my old software. Here's the quandary - setting ie8-compatibility-view enabled ="true" will bring up Google search results in a properly formatted page but will not open the Comcast/Xfinity webmail. Setting this attribute to "false" allows the Comcast mail to open and work great but in Google the search results are not formatted correctly - smashed to the left as if there were an 8" right margin.

Is there a way to indicate different compatibility view modes for specific websites in the config file?
