Support Request: The Sitekiosk config file could not be opened correctly

Description

Hi.
The config editor can't load any of the config files, it gives the error message shown in the title. If I open the editor, I can make any changes I want, and I can even save it to a .skcfg file without any issue. Even, if I open Sitekiosk afterwards, it starts up correctly, reflecting all the changes I made in the config. However, if I try to open the config file again in the editor, (or any other config file) it won't start up, showing the message said above.

I've tried this on 2 PCs, with different hardwares. One of them has Win 7 Home Premium sp1 (x64), the other has W7 Ultimate sp1 (x86), both installed from separate install media. Every Windows Update is downloaded. I have checked the config files for xml errors, using IE 11. I've even tried to open the example.skcfg file, the issue is the same with that, so I think we can rule out corrupted configuration files. This happens if I use the 'open last configuration' option, or if I open the config file via Windows Explorer. Browsing the support articles here, I've found someone with a similar issue, but in that case, the Sitekiosk user account was given administratior priviliges. This is not the case with my issue, and I didn't change anything in the System Security Manager either. The config files are not encrypted. I really have no clue on what could cause this, since both PCs are freshly installed, with barely any personalization/customization, so any idea is appreciated.

Thanks for your help,
Zoli

Hello,

On my system (Windows 7 x64 with IE11) I can open the attached SiteKiosk configuration without any issue (with double clicking on the file or using the “Load last file” button.

What other applications are installed on the machine(s)?

You may even check this with the most current SiteKiosk version 8.91:

When you asked what other programs installed on the machine(s), I went ahead, and started uninstalling everything one-by-one, and checked the issue between each uninstall. It turned out, Sitecafe was the cause of the issue. I did a quick search, and I relized sitecafe is no longer supported from Sitekiosk 8.x.

My problem is now resolved by uninstalling Sitecafe, apologies for the inconvenience.
