Support Request: SiteKiosk with Domain account

Description

I used the bellow command to configure the sitekiosk user:

SystemSecurity /user:AAA /pass:BBB /domain:XXX

I can see the account in auto-login settings as well. However, after the restart it does not login automatically.

Kindly advise if any additional steps to be followed.

Note: I am using Sitekiosk 9 on Win10 devices

Answer: (9)

Hello,

The command “Systemsecurity /parameter“ is not for setting the auto start mode or configuring the SiteKiosk user for auto login.
SystemSecurity.exe is an application you can use to apply additional security settings to the SiteKiosk user account and the parameters (optional feature) can be used for applying the security settings to any other user account.
You will get a dialog with further information when using systemsecurity.exe /? at the command line.
Also see here for further information about the System-Security-Manager:

For starting the SiteKiosk Browser automatically with a domain account you can use the “Customized” start setting.
Start SiteKiosk in a user account with local admin rights and choose “Customized” in the quick start dialog that is displayed.

In the “Customized” start dialog:
1. Select the option "Run SiteKiosk automatically at Windows startup (auto start)" and "Auto start with shell replacement" from the dropdown.
2. Uncheck the box labeled "Settings only apply to the restricted SiteKiosk user account".
3. Check the box labeled “Disable any keyboard input during startup”
4. Check the box labeled "Log on automatically at system startup" then click the "Settings" button.
5. In the Auto Login dialog window enter the credentials for the domain user that you would like SiteKiosk to run under.
6. Click "OK" then you will be prompted to reboot for auto start.

I followed the steps suggested, but it changes from domain to local account.
After the restart, it stays on the windows login prompt.

Hello,

Please verify that you entered the correct user credentials for logging in.

If it still doesn’t work there is a policy set or other security application active that blocks SiteKiosk to add the start settings to the Windows registry.
These settings are regular Windows settings to auto logon a user-
Here the example for the SiteKiosk user:
- AutoLogon:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\AutoAdminLogon", "1", "REG_SZ"
-->1= on / 0 = off

- Name:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\DefaultUserName", "SiteKiosk", "REG_SZ"

- Domain resp. Workgroup:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\DefaultDomainName", "Workgroup", "REG_SZ"

Regarding the auto login password we have used the following procedure from Microsoft to encrypt the password:

Hello Michael,

Thanks for your response.

When I add domain account in the start page, it works well for one time. But the setting gets changed in the next reboot.
There is not entry for the account in start page drop down list.

However, it works fine with "local" account".

Is there any other way to set this default account?

Hello,

Sorry, the drop down is only available for local accounts.
With domain accounts you need to explicitly set the domain, domain user and user password.

It is a default behavior that the GUI options are reset when starting the customized start dialog the next time as the advised user is the restricted local SiteKiosk user account.
Furthermore it will not display the actual settings that are set but the advised (with SiteKiosk user).

SiteKiosk will set the start settings in the registry at the time you confirm that start dialog and only delete them when choosing to close or to log off in the SiteKiosk exit dialog (you access after pressing the configured key combination and entering the configured password).

At no other time SiteKiosk will change those settings.
