Support Request: Help Configuring Sitekiosk Classic Ver. 9

Description

I am evaluating the software for use as a public kiosk. The people using the kiosk will be completing applications and they need to have the ability to upload a document from a folder on the computer. How do I configure the Sitekiosk software to allow file uploads?

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. You can test using the Documents folder for the SiteKiosk user. All the other folders will be restricted in that user. You can test this only in Auto Start mode. The path is like C:\Users\SiteKiosk\Documents .

You can use Start Screen text elements to help guide your users where to save their files, if using another application like Word: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Cpzhz9t5-c

If you need to access to USB drive folders and still use the restricted user, you need to allow the drive letters to be shown. You have to open System Security Manager(application)>>Customized>>"File system" in the admin user. There you can uncheck to unhide the needed drive letters. Click Ok when ready to apply.

----

Not using the restricted user? If you are in a domain environment and have a service user of your own, you can try the browser upload feature and allow SiteKiosk to block it. You can then make an exception here by looking at the logs (mostly Section 1): https://www.sitekiosk.com/web/CustomerSupportCenter/ArticleDetails.aspx?ArticleID=25533

You can find the logs in Configuration>>Logfiles>>"Open log file in editor" or C:\Program Files (x86)\SiteKiosk\Logfiles (yyyy-mm-dd.txt files)

Setting Auto Start for another user account:
1. Open the "Start SiteKiosk" application in an admin user.
2. Choose “Customized” in the Quick Start dialog that is displayed.
3. In the “Customized” settings enable the option “Run SiteKiosk automatically at Windows startup (auto start)”
4. Disable “Settings only apply to the restricted SiteKiosk user account”
5. (Optional) Enable/disable "Disable any keyboard input during startup”
6. Enable “Log on automatically at system startup”, then click Settings button beside it.
7. Enter your Username, Password and Domain name and click OK.
8. Click OK and follow instructions to restart the computer.

According to your suggestion, I set up my kiosk user as the path and also put in a path for the local admin account. So I have two paths which are C:\Users\Kiosk\Documents and C:\Users\AZBN-IT\Documents. Next you said to test this but I have to test it in Auto-Start mode.

When I try to start the Auto-Start mode, I get the following message:

"You have chosen a configuration which cannot be used in combination with shell replacement. Please choose a configuration file with password protection enabled."

What does that mean and how to I resolve it? I have been using the trial version and I just ordered the Classic paid version but I have not received my license information yet.

Hello,

Thank you for the update. There may be many misconceptions on customizing SiteKiosk. The message is saying you must set a password and a way to exit SiteKiosk in the configuration - https://www.sitekiosk.com/helpconsole/SiteKiosk%20Help/en-US/default.htm?password.htm . I will be glad to discuss more with you. You will receive an email shortly.

Best regards,
Andre.
