Digital Passenger Experience in Terminal Operations
With Travor, Aviation Solutions by Schiphol Group is developing a platform that provides targeted support to airport passengers. The solution can be used via public kiosks or passengers’ own smartphones and combines airport information, digital conversations with staff, interactive maps, transfer support, and services for passengers with assistance needs. Deploying such an application on publicly accessible devices requires a reliable technical operating environment. SiteKiosk provides the protected runtime environment in which Travor can run securely on kiosks. This includes controlled application launch, operating system and browser lockdown, central configuration, remote monitoring, and remote access to the devices.
Joint Exchange on Current Requirements and Upcoming Developments
In Amsterdam, the focus was on professional exchange and joint future developments. Together with the team from Aviation Solutions by Schiphol Group, requirements from the airport environment were discussed and aligned with the ongoing product development of SiteKiosk.
The Interplay of Hardware, Software, and Accessible Operation
A key part of the discussion focused on how hardware and software in public spaces can work together even more reliably. The focus was on keypads with tactile controls used at high-traffic terminals. Their operation must function reliably regardless of whether a screen reader is active. The discussion also covered the targeted addressing of multiple audio devices at a single terminal. For assistive cues, voice guidance, or other audio signals, audio output must be controlled contextually and clearly separated from one another. Looking at the devices in the public airport area showed how the combination of Travor and SiteKiosk performs in real-world operation. For the ongoing collaboration, this direct insight provides valuable input for further developing functions for security, monitoring, hardware integration, and accessible operation in practice.
