Support Request: KB5007651 not loading on Sitekiosk devices

Description

We have recently moved to NinjaOne as our RMM here at Valley Queen and this month I am having problems getting KB5007651 to script to about 40 of our SiteKiosk enabled devices. I am looking for best practice with your product for patching our fleet do we need to schedule a downtime window for the entire fleet of devices and shut SiteKiosk off and patch the machines and turn it back on. If so would like some assistance on creating that job so it works correctly.

Thank you Clayton Siegfried

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. Windows Updates are automatically applied in the backend. There is no need to close SiteKiosk for this. SiteKiosk Online has many tools for backend administration of codes, mainly PowerShell. You can use Portal>>Monitoring>>Device>>Administration>>Recovery Shell. You can set a New Job or Job Template in Portal>>Control>>Jobs. Each Job has steps that can happen in the desired order. Review each job to choose the right one for your case action.

See:
https://us.sitekiosk.online/help/en/Jobs.html
https://us.sitekiosk.online/help/en/Administration.html

For KB5121003, a new client is needed, or you can run the code by the Jobs method, see: https://www.sitekiosk.com/news/important-notice-windows-update-blocks-sitekiosk-autostart/

For KB500765, no established issues have been noted. If you are experiencing issues with any Windows Security features, please email us with the details from Portal>>Monitoring>>Device>>Logfiles>>Calendar>>Export.

Best regards,
Andre.

I have gone into one of the 40 machines and disabled site kiosk and the update applies in less than 2 minutes for KB5007651. If SiteKiosk is running it fails to apply completely to the device. I just created a new job in SItekiosk to shut off Sitekiosk and run a powershell script that will force the install of the KB article and the job does not work at all on any device i attempt it on. Just says running at 0 Percent and does not go thru the steps in the job at all. Attaching a screen shot of the job I just created on the console.

Thank you for reference. After some testing, there is not much known delay that is caused by SiteKiosk Online itself unless:
- Microsoft recognizes the device is in use and will not run the update, until a certain time has passed.
- There is a local policy that sets the update behavior.
- A Windows Feature Update requires user acceptance and will not happen in the background.

For kiosk setting that is public facing, it might be better to log off the running user with the Operating System steps. Run your code to initiate Windows Update detection. Wait 30 mins or so, then reboot the device. Not certain this will work but there are no options to force a Windows Update, unless you bypass the code run and personally check the Windows Update process.

Logging off the user by job run does not cancel Auto Start and a reboot will launch SiteKiosk Online again.

Best regards,
Andre.
