Support Request: Printing From Web

Description

Dear Support,

Kindly note that at times, print jobs are sent to a temp folder and pages are printed blank. This happens randomly, on the same session it sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't.

a screen shoot of the path is attached with the current configuration zip file

Can you kindly advise

Thank You
Shaun

Hello,

There is no known problem and wih this configuration SiteKiosk does use the print function of the Internet Explorer.
As it happens randomly it might be a timing issue?
Or does it apply to certain web pages?

You may check if this also happens when disabling the printer monitoring in the SiteKiosk configuration.

Dear Mr Olbrich,

Thank you for your reply,

When i switched off Printing Monitoring I couldn't print anything.

I enabled the print preview from the config file and it seems to be working fine. I tried a couple of tests and all were good.

However, when a PDF file is opened in the browser the print button of the EDGE browser doesn't work, you have to right click on the document and click print for it to actually print.

On another note I noticed that point 8 of the print documentation in the Kiosk Configuration it says that xerox are incompatible, are you aware of any known issues with xerox printers please?

Thank you
&
Regards
Shaun

Hello,

When deactivating the printer monitoring there is no difference anymore between printing function in SiteKiosk Browser and IE.
Deactivating the printer monitoring usually means it should work better as there is nothing special anymore in regards to the print oput functionality.

You only need to make sure that the printer you want to use is the default printer on Windows.

You shouldn’t compare this with the EDGE Browser but with the Internet Explorer (iexplore.exe) also available on Windows 10.
But if it doesn’t work properly in IE it cannot work in SiteKiosk.

If it works in IE you first should check it in “Run once” mode (in the user account where you checked it in IE).

Otherwise may even check this with using the “Chrome Browser “ Skin?
With the Chrome Browser Skin you can allow printing at “-->Start Page & Browser-->Customize-->Settings”.
To display a print button activate “Show Print Button” at “-->Start Page & Browser-->Customize-->Browser Toolbar”.

But for the printer installation it is the same: Make sure that the printer you want to use is the default printer in the Windows user account you run SiteKiosk in.

>>>On another note I noticed that point 8 of the print documentation in the Kiosk Configuration it says that xerox are incompatible, are you aware of any known issues with xerox printers please?<<<
That is an information that a customer has given a while ago and applies to the print driver of Xerox Phaser printers in combination with printer monitoring. Actual drivers may work?

Anyway you need to consider the special installation for network printers if you cativate the printer monitoring (not necessary when printer monitoring is deactivated):
http://www.provisio.com/helpconsole/SiteKiosk%20Help/en-US/default.htm?setup_printer.htm

This does not play any role when printer monitoring is off.
